Artist's Description
The original painting is acrylic on birch plywood, approximately 24X24 inches.
The inspiration for this painting was the view from my upstairs studio window. From the window I see the back porch rooftop and the tangled, thick woods beyond. Late into working on this piece I decided that maybe it was a bit too representational. So, I decided to depart (rebel) from what I knew and painted a "square" sun. But, in doing so I acknowledge that the sun is actually round and thus defeat my own rebelliousness.
About Steven Barrett
I believe that art is born of life experience. Whether it comes from an immediate visual experience or some vague subconscious impression of the psyche, it is all the same - an abstraction of the cumulative knowledge of the artist. My own work is perhaps a marriage of subjective experience and that which can best be described as intellectual expression. As an artist, I hope the viewer comes away with a greater sense of the diversity of artistic expression and has added something positive to his or her own life experience. Images - Steven Barrett. Spooky -- Just a couple of hours before you posted this, I was looking at a Peavey amp at the flea market.
